Legacies and In-Memoriam
Legacies
Everyone who remembers Age Scotland in their Will is making sure an older person - sometime, somewhere - will get the helping hand they need. If you remember Age Scotland in your Will, you will be helping older people in need long after your lifetime.
Approximately 20% of Age Scotland's income comes from legacies. After you have taken care of your loved ones, if you are in a position to, please include Age Scotland in your Will. Even a small percentage of what is left can make a real difference to us and the people who will need us years from now.
It's so easy to put Age Scotland in your Will and you may find it a useful opportunity to review your Will. We recommend that you consult a solicitor to make sure it still takes account of your wishes and provides for everyone and everything you care about.
If you are planning on leaving a legacy to Age Scotland we would be grateful if you could let us know so that we can better plan the charity's future.
Call us now on 0845 833 0200 for a Legacy Pledge form if you would like to tell us that you are remembering us in your Will.
The terms used when leaving a legacy can sometimes be confusing. Here are the most common examples of types of legacies people leave:
Residuary legacy
Once you have taken care of your loved ones, you may wish to leave the residue of your estate to one or more beneficiaries - causes that are important to you.
Pecuniary legacy
This is a specific amount of money left as a gift in your Will.
Specific legacy
This is a particular item left as a gift in your Will. For instance, it could be an item of jewellery, a valuable piece of furniture or shares.
In-Memoriam
You may want to make a gift in the name of a loved one who has passed away. This can leave a lasting tribute to someone important to you. Some people like to collect donations in place of funeral flowers. We are always here to talk to you sensitively and thank your mourners appropriately.
