Big Knit 2009 Final Figures
For those of you eagerly awaiting news of how the Big Knit 2009 went, we are proud to tell you that over 30,000 knitted creations were stitched in Scotland. Knitters of all ages took part, from the pupils of Scalpay School to the nimble-fingered members of our groups, some of whom are still knitting at the age of 94! Despite a tricky start with the veg pot warmers, in the end 6643 arrived to warm the vegetable pots in Sainsbury's fridges. This is a fabulous amount especially considering that we only had a couple of months to work with the new pattern.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who knitted for us.
The Big Knit appeal has now closed
The sound of needles clacking has now ceased, marking the end of the knitting phase for The Big Knit 2009 in Scotland. Thank you to everyone who took the time to stitch veg pot warmers and bobble hats to keep innocent products cosy in Sainsbury's fridges this winter - your support is deeply appreciated. We received thousands of colourful works of craft through our doors, each one generating 35p for Age Concern and Help the Aged in Scotland.
Pop along to your local Sainsbury's to see the results of our supporters' hard work.

The Big Knit Returns - Bigger and Woollier than ever before!
The Big Knit returns this year with bigger ambitions - and bigger knitted items! innocent Ltd and Sainsbury's are planning to raise over £250,000 to support Age Concern and Help the Aged. All money raised will go towards healthy eating and healthy living projects aimed at older people.
Knit for us
In 2008 our supporters in Scotland knitted a fantastic 38,100 woolly bobble hats to go on innocent smoothie bottles. This year we are hoping to do even better, but we need your help. We are asking you to knit woolly warmers which will fit around innocent veg pots in Sainsbury's fridges. Not only do they look adorable but Age Concern and Help the Aged in Scotland will receive 44p per warmer from innocent Ltd and Sainsbury's.
So if you would like to help us keep Scotland's older people fit and healthy then dust off your knitting needles and start stitching - the step-by-step pattern makes knitting these items easy! You can download the veg pot warmer pattern here or visit innocent's Big Knit website. You may be as creative as you like with your knitted items - take a look at some of the wonderful bobble hats from last year in our gallery. But hurry...we need all your lovely woolly goods to be sent to us by 9th October at:
